Woman Celebrates 105th Birthday with a Full-On Rave at Care Home
"We're having a little rave. I've always loved dancing. I'm enjoying every minute!"
Electronic music is a global phenomenon that transcends generations, and Hilda Jackson is living proof of that. At 105 years old, the Derbyshire care home resident celebrated her birthday in an unconventional way: with a full-fledged rave, complete with a DJ, psychedelic lights, UV paint, and glowsticks. Proving that you're never too old to party, she charmed everyone with her youthful spirit and love for music.
The celebration kicked off with an interview on BBC Radio 2 with Scott Mills, who enthusiastically introduced Hilda to listeners: "Hilda loves the rave!" During the broadcast, she took part in "The Birthday Game," where she had to choose between different songs. While she wasn’t particularly impressed with "Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes)" by Edison Lighthouse, her reaction was completely different when she heard the classic "No Limit" by 2 Unlimited. With a big smile and a thumbs-up, she said, "I rather like that!"
Born when David Lloyd George was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Hilda now lives at Holbrook Hall Residential Home, near Belper. According to the staff, she has always been passionate about dancing and living life to the fullest. To make her party extra special, the team organized a full program, including electronic music sets, dancefloor classics, and, of course, good vibes.

The celebration featured an improvised dance floor inside the care home, where residents and staff joined in, dancing to tunes from different decades. The event reinforced how electronic culture is inclusive and unites generations through rhythm and energy. "I never thought I’d reach this age, but fortunately, I'm here, and I'm very grateful for that," Hilda told the BBC. When asked about the secret to her longevity, she humbly responded, "I'm going to be honest. I don't have a secret at all. I just keep going, one day at a time."
The public’s affection was evident: Holbrook Hall staff encouraged people to send birthday cards to Hilda, and the response was overwhelming. "I don't know where they all came from, but they are wonderful. I'm so grateful to everyone," she said. One of the most emotional moments was when she received a card from the British Royal Family—an unexpected surprise that left her speechless.
